Course Description
For classroom delivery, this course is taught as half day session (4 hours).
This course is part of the Virtuoso Spectre Pro series. It is an advanced class offering and part of the Engineer Explorer series. You use the Spectre Circuit Simulator and its corresponding options to analyze results from transient analysis and use the Analog Design Environment to set up and run simulations on circuit examples. You also learn how to set up a transient analysis as a basis for deriving accurate DFT. Finally, you compare the DFT obtained from using the Fourier component from the analogLib library and by using the Calculator tool in Virtuoso.
Learning Objectives
After completing this course, you will be able to:
- Set global and transient analysis options to get a correct Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT).
- Differentiate between the internal Fourier analysis run by the Virtuoso® Spectre® Circuit Simulator and the DFT special function in the waveform calculator, which uses the Fast Fourier Transform algorithm (FFT), and identify the advantages and disadvantages of each.
- Determine how many harmonics are needed for accurate results with square wave signals.
- Verify from Fourier results whether the DFT results contain startup behavior in the transient.
- Estimate the numerical noise floor from DFT results.
- Identify DFT window functions and know when to use them.
