Course Description
For classroom delivery, this course is taught as half day session (4 hours).
This course is part of the Virtuoso Spectre Pro series and focuses on the DC analysis algorithms of the Virtuoso Spectre Circuit Simulator and its corresponding analysis options. This is an advanced class offering and part of the Engineer Explorer series. In this class, you learn how Spectre simulator uses the DC Algorithm and reaches a DC operating point solution. The concepts of initial conditions and node sets are discussed. You also learn different convergence methods and in the rare event that your solution does not converge, this course discusses manual convergence methods that can be used to reach your DC solution.
Learning Objectives
After completing this course, you will be able to:
- Understand how Spectre, +aps and ++aps differ.
- Explain the formation of the conductance matrix.
- Describe the Newton-Raphson iterative method.
- Understand convergence.
- Understand Nodesets and Initial Conditions.
- List the limiting algorithms used by the Spectre simulator.
- State the different automatic methods of DC convergence.
- Understand a manual method of obtaining convergence.
- Understand the diagnose output and how to use it.
- Understand all the analysis options and properties affecting the DC algorithm, know what the tradeoffs are, and when to set them.
